Guanacaste Province Climate
Costa Rica has two seasons: wet and dry. The wet months are thought of as winter, and the dry months as summer. In Guanacaste Province, the dry season lasts several weeks longer than in other parts of the country. Even during the rainy season, days may start sunny with the rains coming later in the afternoon. Costa Rica also enjoys short breaks from the rains during the wet months known as “veranillos” or small summers. These mini dry seasons usually occur in mid-July.
Climate’s Impact on Travel:
- Peak tourism runs from late November to mid-May, during the dry season.
- The wet season can also be called the “green season” as the landscapes become lush with the rain. Some tourists prefer visiting Costa Rica during the green season to escape crowds and take advantage of lower rates.
- Unpaved roads can become nearly impassable during the rainy season.
